Celebrities should really stay out of politics.
And not just for the obvious reasons, like the fact that they’re completely out of touch with the rest of America. It’s also beginning to have devastating effects on the careers of some.
Case in point is actor Shia Labeouf. Of all the celebrities exhibiting outrage at the fact that Trump won the election, it’s been hard to top LaBeouf’s outlandish behavior in the wake of Trump’s victory.
LaBeouf’s live stream protest at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York earlier this year can only be described as bizarre. Other celebrities like Will Smith’s son Jayden joined him in repeatedly chanting, “He will not divide us!” They had planned to do this for all four years of Trump’s presidency, but were mercifully shut down.
The former Disney Channel star appears to be on a steady decline when it comes his mental health. Now his career is declining as well.
“Man Down,” a war thriller with Shia LaBeouf, grossed just £7 ($8.70) when it premiered in a single U.K. theater over the weekend, according to ComScore. That’s the equivalent of selling a single ticket, given that the U.K. Cinema Association puts the average movie admission cost in the country at £7.21.
“Poor Shia,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore. “That opening could be in the Guinness World Records or something.”
The film played in one location, Reel Cinema in Burnley. It was simultaneously released digitally on demand, making the theatrical release something of an afterthought. It launches on DVD and Blu-ray next month, according to the Guardian.
Man Down? Sounds about right.
Could this poor showing at the box office be backlash for the actor’s constant grandstanding? It’s definitely a possibility.
And it only gets worse: LaBoeuf must be (understandably) upset at the major flop, and the general direction his career has taken. So when this altercation erupted, could we really be that surprised? From TMZ:
Shia LaBeouf got kicked out of an L.A. bowling alley Wednesday night after freaking out on a bartender, calling him a “f***ing racist.”
Shia was at Pinz in Studio City and according to one eyewitness, he was there for 3 hours pounding back beers.
We’re told Shia got rowdy in Jerry’s Deli, which is connected to Pinz, and got into a verbal altercation when the staff told him to leave.
Great job, Shia. Showing your true liberal colors. It looks like the former Transformers star needs a transformation himself.
LaBeouf isn’t the only celebrity people are beginning to tune out in the wake of the Trump administration. The E! channel’s cornerstone show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” has suffered a massive drop in viewership since Trump took office.
The show’s poor ratings demonstrate an exciting new trend. People are favoring watching the news over watching reality television.
This election was a turning point for many people, and now they are rejecting the opinions of celebrities who have no understanding of what they’re going through because they’re so insulated from the rest of society.
Evidently no one wants to keep up with the Kardashians…or the LaBeouf’s.
