Never mind building the border wall for a moment: Republicans are frequently called everything from racist to unrealistic for pointing out that many of the nation’s problems could be solved if the authorities simply enforced existing immigration laws.
What a crazy idea! Enforcing the laws on the books!
But laws are pointless without the political will to enforce them, not to mention giving those tasked with enforcement the tools they need to do their job.
Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza, acting in his role as president of the National Border Patrol Council, Local 2455, appeared on Fox News Channel recently to discuss border security and the need for building a wall. “Eight out of ten people that are caught entering our country illegally are not deported and are allowed to stay in the United States,” Garza explained. “Unfortunately for Border Patrol agents, we are trying to do our jobs as best we can with the very limited resources that we have.”
“We do not have enough vehicles for our agents to patrol with, we do not get the manpower that we need.” (…)
Through executive orders and prosecutorial discretion … Most of the people that we apprehend end up getting released into the country,” he said while expressing his frustration.
This sounds a lot like a case of benign neglect by the federal government, who are secretly hoping to admit more illegals so they can import future Democratic borders — the laws of the land and the safety of American citizens be damned.
