No matter how you look at it, liberals are wrong on illegal immigration.
Perhaps this issue was the single thing that helped sweep Trump into the White House. For years Americans have suffered thanks to unrestrained illegal immigration coming from Mexico. Illegal aliens have taken jobs away from American workers and driven wages way down.
Add to this the fact that they don’t pay taxes so they are not documented by U.S. agencies, and you have a large portion of our populace that is virtually invisible. Yet they rely on government funded programs to survive, like schooling and health care.
The bottom line is something must be done to curtail this problem and while nobody wants to deport non-violent violators of our laws, the reality is they are in this country illegally.
President Obama tried to protect children who came here illegally in the DREAMer program. This wildly criticized policy created a loophole and all but encouraged more illegal immigration. It also compelled aliens to bring kids along or to have kids, to use at anchors to stay in America.
While President Trump cracks down on criminals aliens, who are smuggling drugs and violence into the U.S., he promised not to go after the some 750,000 aliens protected under DACA.
But the reality is, as our law enforcement rounds up criminals, a few DREAMers will be swept up as well.
From USA Today:
Federal agents ignored President Trump’s pledge to protect from deportation undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children by sending a young man back to his native Mexico, the first such documented case, a USA TODAY examination of the new administration’s immigration policies shows…
Since taking office, Trump has followed through on his campaign pledge to crack down on illegal immigration by signing executive orders to step up enforcement against the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. The new policy calls for expanding the criteria for detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants and hiring thousands of new agents.
Yet Trump declined to revoke the DACA protections Obama had granted to more than 750,000 undocumented immigrants, repeatedly saying he had a soft spot for these young people who are leading productive lives and have few, if any, ties to the countries of their birth…
Even so, DACA enrollees are being targeted by immigration authorities. At least 10 are in federal custody, according to United We Dream, an advocacy organization made up of DACA enrollees and other young immigrants.
Let’s get real here. There are over 750,000 people protected under the DREAMers program. So far TEN have been detained by immigration authorities.
Hardly a crisis. Yet the liberal media will spin this as some kind of attack on non-violent criminal offenders.
But we have to acknowledge that illegal immigration does not end with gang members. Even illegals who don’t commit violent crimes create programs in our society.
They are depending on our resources and services, but are not full members of our country. They are exploited by companies looking for cheap labor, driving wages down for legal workers.
The situation needs to be addressed. While Trump, being a compassionate person, might not be eager to export DREAMers, getting tough on immigration is necessary.
So far we are not seeing droves of DREAMers getting the boot; only a microfraction have been confronted. It will most likely stay that way.
But until we get tough with all forms of illegal immigration, it will only become a growing problem.
