“What did the president know, and when did he know it?” It was one of the key questions during the Watergate hearings that helped bring down a Republican president.
Now some people are asking the same thing about President Obama and Hillary Clinton’s email server scandal.
Obama told the American people that he didn’t know anything about this security lapse until he heard about it in “news reports,” but new documents released by WikiLeaks call this assertion into question:
In an email dated March 7, 2015, Clinton staffers reacted with apparent surprise to Obama’s statement.
“Jen you probably have more on this but it looks like POTUS just said he found out HRC was using her personal email when he saw it in the news,” Hillary for America spokesman Josh Schwerin wrote to a handful of Clinton staffers.
Clinton adviser Cheryl Mills then forwarded the email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and wrote:
“We need to clean this up – he has emails from her – they do not say state.gov.”
Another saying from the Watergate scandal to ponder: “It’s not the crime, it’s the cover up.”
That scandal didn’t really gain traction until after Richard Nixon won re-election. It would be tragic if the full impact of the WikiLeaks revelations aren’t felt until it is too late: after President Hillary Clinton is installed.
