Hillary Clinton was probably hoping that her description of Trump supporters as “a basket of deplorables” had finally been forgotten.
However, it looks like there’s a lack of what political consultants call “message discipline” at her headquarters, because her campaign manager just brought the issue back to the forefront on national television.
Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” while discussing an ad from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump hitting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s comments describing Trump’s supporters as “deplorables” driven by racist beliefs, Clinton’s campaign manager Robby Mook doubled down.
Mook said, “I think a lot of the people that stand by Donald Trump are deplorable, and the things they say are deplorable.”
How such divisive language is going to help Hillary Clinton win is questionable. It only appeals to her most rabid supporters and isn’t going to win over undecided voters who want a president who focuses on uniting America instead of dividing it even further.
