Even Congress does the right thing from time to time.
On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed two monumental anti-illegal immigration bills. These two bills – Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act – are long-overdue reforms that work to end leniencies given to illegals.
President Donald Trump had a wonderful message in the wake of the bills’ passage:
From the White House:
During my campaign, I met many grieving families who all had the same plea: lawmakers must put the safety of American families first. Today, I applaud the House for passing two crucial measures to save and protect American lives. These were bills I campaigned on and that are vital to our public safety and national security.
The first bill, Kate’s Law, increases criminal penalties for illegal immigrants who repeatedly re-enter the country illegally. The bill is named for Kate Steinle, who was killed by an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times. Every year, countless Americans are victimized, assaulted, and killed by illegal immigrants who have been deported multiple times. It is time for these tragedies to end.
The second bill, the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, restricts taxpayer grant money to cities that prevent their police from turning over dangerous criminal aliens to federal authorities. Sanctuary cities are releasing violent criminals, including members of the bloodthirsty MS-13 gang, back onto our streets every single day. Innocent Americans are suffering unthinkable violence as a result of these cities’ reckless actions. The House bill also includes what is known as Grant’s Law and Sarah’s Law. These provisions, which prevent the release of dangerous criminals awaiting removal proceedings, are named for two slain Americans whose parents I spent time with during the campaign.
Now that the House has acted, I urged the Senate to take up these bills, pass them, and send them to my desk. I am calling on all lawmakers to vote for these bills and to save American lives.
The president spared no words.
He said exactly what needed to be said: even though these bills are great steps forward for the America First agenda, we still have a lot of ground to cover until we can once again become a nation of laws.
The first major thorn in the side of his agenda is the Democratic party.
Kate’s Law and the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act both passed with only 27 votes in favor from Democrats, combined. Furthermore, the Democratic leadership was strongly aligned against these bills, and the liberal media exploded with criticism after they were passed.
It appears as though the Democratic Party could not care less about solving illegal immigration.
Perhaps they do not even see it as an issue. After all, to them illegals are “Dreamers” and “undocumented workers” instead of what they actually are – criminals.
It is unfortunate, but it is true. Illegal immigrants are criminals, as they broke the law in order to come to the United States.
There is nothing admirable about this. It is not inspiring, and people who do it should not be applauded and rewarded.
Those who champion illegals are acting unfairly towards American citizens and legal immigrants alike. These are people who both need and deserve jobs, and illegals take those jobs for themselves instead.
President Trump cares about the American people. That is why he wants to end illegal immigration once and for all, and if Congress keeps up its solid anti-illegal immigration streak, we might see that goal reached soon.
