Note to conservatives: Be bold and stand ready to fight.
At least one high-ranking politico in the Republican camp is cautioning that times are getting tougher for those on the right, and it won’t be long before political battles turn bloody – literally.
Gov. Matt Bevin from Kentucky said in a recent speech the level of vitriol from the left-leaning camp is going to demand those on the ideological right step up their game for the November elections, and beyond. Bluntly, he warned: The time to fight is now – and that fight might escalate to the physical level.
From the Lexington Herald Leader:
“I want us to be able to fight ideologically, mentally, spiritually, economically, so that we don’t have to do it physically,” he said, during a Value Voters Conference speech. “But that may, in fact, be the case.”
He then spoke of the silence of conservatives as akin to those who sat quietly and did nothing while the Nazis went on a persecution tear. And if Hillary Clinton is elected, he said, conservatives need to be ready to dig in hard, come out of their shells, and match fist-for-fist.
“Whose blood will be shed? It may be that of those in this room,” Bevin said. “It might be that of our children and grandchildren. I have nine children. It breaks my heart to think that it might be their blood is needed to redeem something, to reclaim something that we, through our apathy and our indifference, have given away. Don’t let it happen.”
He also called on Americans to “be bold,” like a Winston Churchill rather than a Neville Chamberlain, and to be shepherds, not sheep, the media outlet reported.
The Democrats quickly rallied in critical response to his speech.
But when asked for clarification about his comments a couple days later, Bevin was unapologetic.“Today we have thousands of men and women in uniform fighting for us overseas and they need our full backing. We cannot be complacent about the determination of radical Islamic extremists to destroy our freedoms. Nor can we allow apathy and indifference to allow our culture to crumble from within. We need strong leadership at every level of government to defend our Constitution and our republic. We must fight to preserve the exceptionalism and the promise of America, because America is worth it.”
