Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) rocketed to fame last year by mounted a spirited challenge to Hillary Clinton in the complete sham that was the Democratic primary.
Sanders never really stood a chance against the chosen one, but he became the choice of the cool kids by promising all sorts of free stuff.
Of course, he failed to properly explain the details of the things he was proposing. As we all know, nothing in life is truly free. Someone has to pay for it.
When it comes to the socialistic principles endorsed by Sanders, taxpayers are the ones footing the bill.
But hey – it’s free stuff, especially for those that don’t pay taxes!
Sanders remains popular with his supporters, and he’s still out there promising the moon and the stars.
The Daily Caller passes along the details on his latest initiative.
Illegal immigrants will seemingly be eligible to receive Medicare benefits under Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ single payer health care bill, released Wednesday.
The bill, dubbed “Medicare For All Act of 2017,” extends an enhanced version of Medicare coverage, absent virtually all out of pocket costs, to every U.S. resident, regardless of age or immigration status.
Ahhh. So giving out free stuff to all legal US residents just isn’t enough for Sanders. He’s decided to kick things up a notch to include illegals. That should make his latest brainchild a surefire hit with the cool kids.
“IN GENERAL.—Every individual who is a resident of the United States is entitled to benefits for health care services under this Act. The Secretary shall promulgate a rule that provides criteria for determining residency for eligibility purposes under this Act,” the bill reads.
The language suggests that the roughly 11 million illegal immigrants who currently reside in the U.S. will be eligible to receive extensive medical and dental coverage at no personal expense.
If passed, the legislation would effectively eliminate the private insurance market by instituting the federal government as the sole insurance purchaser. The bill includes a four-year rollout period in which coverage would gradually expand from adults aged 55 and older and children, to middle aged and young adult residents.
Hmmm. Sounds like a fantastic deal. Everyone gets free health care with no personal expenses attached. So how does this wonderful program get funded?
As you would expect, Sanders is being very sketchy on the details. As he sees it, let’s just get this done already, and then we’ll worry about how to pay for it.
That sounds like a perfectly responsible way to approach things in the fantasy land that Sanders envisions. As with all of his mind-numbing ideas and proposals, someone has to pay for it.
That would be taxpayers. Those that don’t pay anywhere near their fair share – if they pay at all – will likely love his single payer plan.
The rest of us will continue to bang our heads against the wall and patiently wait for his supporters to grow up and enter the real world.
