One of the most pressing issues that faced us this Election was the fact that the next President will appoint several new Supreme Court Justices.
At least two new Justices must be appointed by the next President. Antonin Scalia, who passed away this year, left a seat open. Ginsburg and Breyer are both over 70 and may soon retire, leaving two more seats to be filled.
That was one of the reasons Hillary Clinton could not win the presidency, as her picks would certainly spell doom for this nation for decades to come. Trump, however, promised conservative Justices who could very well overturn such cases as Roe v Wade.
Now news is coming out over positional picks. But which ones are the most like conservative stalwart Scalia?
From The Political Insider:
Thus far, Trump’s Supreme Court shortlist has 21 potential nominees, but who is the most conservative of them all? A new study has been released on which is most like Scalia.
A panel of legal scholars has identified Utah Supreme Court Justice Thomas Lee as the candidate on President-elect Donald Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees most like the late Justice Antonin Scalia. The four-person group produced a paper called “Searching for Justice Scalia: Measuring The ‘Scalia-ness’ of the Next Potential Member of the U.S. Supreme Court,” which measured key characteristics to determine which candidates are most likely to exhibit Scalia’s jurisprudence and style.
The study looked at potential candidates, their track record, and how they’ve come to decisions in the past.
How a judge makes a decision is based on their interpretation of the law. A Justice like Scalia was strongly conservative and protected the Constitutional rights of Americans, particularly in the area of religious faith.
Our future Justices must do the same. Our Constitution promised freedoms that cannot be violated by anyone, not the government, not a political group, not forces from outside. We need Justices that will uphold our rights and protect our freedoms for years to come.
Thankfully, with Trump as President-Elect, we’ll have Justices that do just that.
