Even for mainstream media, this is a new low.
CNN, which already carries the stigma of its acronym meaning “Clinton News Network,” kind of underscored where that moniker came from. Not only has the cable outlet failed to disguise its utter hatred for all things Donald Trump in its regular campaign reporting over the last few months – but it’s also just outright lied about the billionaire businessman’s remarks from Colorado, ostensibly to distract from the FBI’s reopening of its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server.
The Conservative Tribune reported the story: “CNN ran a story on Sunday about a Trump rally in Colorado, only it blatantly lied about what Trump said at the rally in an attempt to smear him.”
As Mediaite reported, CNN tried to show Trump as a nutcase who was furthering the mantra of voter fraud.
First, Trump’s actual statement, as reported by Conservative Tribune: “If you go to university center, they’ll give you a new ballot, they’ll void your old ballot. They’ll give you a new ballot, and you can go out and make sure it get’s in. Now in some places, they do that four or five times, but we don’t do that. So by tomorrow, almost everyone will have their new ballots in.”
But this is what CNN reported – a slightly skewed version of Trump’s statements.
“If you go to university center, they’ll give you a new ballot, they’ll void your old ballot, in some places they do that four or five times, so by tomorrow, almost everyone will have their new ballots in,” Trump was wrongly attributed as saying, according to CNN.
The edited version makes it seem as if Trump were encouraging voters to commit fraud.
Conservative Tribune had some advice for CNN.
“Instead of trying to cover up Clinton’s corruption,” the blog wrote, “maybe the network should just do its job and report on the news.”
