It’s rare when the left and right can agree on something, but Nancy Pelosi’s failings as both a politician and a human being are becoming too severe for even her supporters to ignore.
The House Minority Speaker’s recent string of nonsensical rants, while highly entertaining, underscore a larger problem within the Democrat Party.
There is a clear divide amongst its members, and it’s becoming more pronounced by the day.
It’s difficult to pinpoint when exactly this breaking point occurred, but the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia seems a likely place to start.
Sanders supporters within the Party were more than outraged when it was revealed that the DNC had been rigging the primaries for Hillary Clinton.
Months later, the DNC’s treatment of Sanders continues to come back to bite them.
Full out mutiny by far these left progressives is now challenging the stranglehold that establishment representatives like Pelosi have had on the Democrat Party.
Pelosi’s attitude has incited Sanders supporters to recruit progressive candidates to challenge establishment Democrats in their primary elections. Nancy Pelosi’s challenger, employment attorney Stephen Jaffe, recently launched his campaign.
“Two words: Bernie Sanders,” Jaffe said in an interview with the Observer when asked why he was running for Congress. “My goal is to try to pull the Democratic Party away from the establishment, corporations, big money, big oil, big pharma, and return it to the people.”
Jaffe has been working to take big money out of Democrat politics in California for some time, and was an avid supporter of Sanders during the primary.
He even worked for the Sanders campaign and attended the caucus in Nevada, where he claims to have witnessed underhanded tactics by the Clinton campaign.
“I worked on that, and when I got back I continued to help out with his campaign until he lost the nomination—which I don’t think he did; I think he was more or less cheated out of it,”Jaffe said.
Jaffe isn’t alone in his anti-DNC sentiments. Many Sanders inspired Democrats are now running for office across the country to unseat establishment Democrats.
These attempts are likely to push the Democratic Party further to the left, making an already horrible problem even worse.
Still, watching the Democratic Party implode is extremely vindicating, especially when it may spell the end for Pelosi’s career.
