It’s clear that the best way to get filthy rich in this country is to run for office. When you control the government, you control the money.
The once sacred duty of leadership in America, considered by our founding fathers as a calling to serve, is now a quick road to cash.
Senators and key leaders can funnel millions into their pockets. They can use their influence–like Hillary Clinton–to garner favors from their buddies overseas. And when all else fails, they can pass laws to give themselves higher salaries.
Not a bad gig.
But it’s just not good for the leaders. Their families seem to benefit from this arrange just as much, if not better.
From The Daily Caller:
More than $9 million of Department of State money has been funneled through the Peace Corps to a nonprofit foundation started and run by Secretary of State John Kerry’s daughter, documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation show.
The Department of State funded a Peace Corps program created by Dr. Vanessa Kerry and officials from both agencies, records show. The Peace Corps then awarded the money without competition to a nonprofit Kerry created for the program.
It began in 2012, while John Kerry was chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. He used his influence to give a three-year contract to his daughter’s group, worth $2 million.
After that she received a four-year extension without competition. That was worth $6.4 million.
Nepotism, thy name is Kerry.
Normally contracts made by the government that are worth millions have multiple groups competing for them. It gives worthy organizations a chance to convince the government they are the best for the contract; the most effective, cost-worthy, and reliable.
But these contracts were made with zero competition, clearly because Kerry’s daughter ran the group. So there is no guarantee the money will be used responsibly, or that the group will at all be effective in its goals.
The Peace Corps program — called the Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP) — sends volunteer physicians and nurses to medical and nursing schools in Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Liberia, according to Seed’s website. More than 40 clinical educators worked at 13 sites in the 2014-2015 program.
Kerry and government officials colluded to launch the program and ensure that Seed would get the contract.
Is this how our government should be run, by people who only look out for their own family? This doesn’t just jeopardize American tax dollars, this affects many people in the third world that need vital healthcare.
Instead of funding the very best group, like say Doctors Without Borders, they funneled millions in Kerry’s kid’s untested new group. She might have squandered the whole lot on airplanes.
But that’s the risk you take when you forego ethics and responsibility for nepotism.
