When you’re Bill Clinton, age and greed seem to perpetuate a desire for extravagant gifts, even when they come strings attached.
Thanks to Wikileaks, ordinary Americans are finally learning some of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s pay-to-play wheeling and dealing included, like “gifts” from dubious Middle Eastern countries in exchange for favors.
And, even though the law requires, she did not report accepting these gifts.
Fox News reports:
The Clinton Foundation has said it accepted a $1 million gift from the Qatari government without notifying the State Department that it had done so, an apparent violation of an ethics agreement Hillary Clinton signed when she became Secretary of State in 2009.
Under the terms of the agreement, Clinton promised the foundation would notify the State Department’s ethics official if a new foreign government wished to donate or if a current foreign donor wished to “increase materially” its contributions. (…)
Qatari officials pledged the money in 2011 to mark former President Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday. The following April, Amitabh Desai, the Clinton Foundation’s foreign policy director, emailed several of his colleagues to say that the Qataris wanted to meet Bill Clinton “for five minutes in NYC to present [the] check.” Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State until February 1, 2013.
Not only did this secret gift violate the law (and Clinton’s own vows to be transparent), but we also know from Wikileaks that Clinton believed Qatar’s government was funding ISIS. That didn’t stop the Obama government from increasing arms sales to that nation by over 1,000 percent.
Of course, it’s just like Hillary Clinton to do business with human rights violators and terror funders, as long as nothing interferes with her quest to enrich her family however possible.
