With the peaceful transition of power complete, and with a new President in the White House, some might be wondering what our former first family is up to.
When a president steps down from his office, he usually enters private life. After serving our country for a number of years–in a highly visible role–it’s natural for him to remove himself from politics, and live in a retired lifestyle.
Recent presidents, however, have bucked this trend. Jimmy Carter founded Habitat for Humanity, a very popular and visible organization, of whom he’s the face. Bill Clinton continued public speaking for his Foundation, traveling the world to raise awareness on mostly political issues.
It remains to be seen what Barack Obama will do, now that he’s finished his time as president. What we do know is after his eight years in Washington, he’s decided to take some time off with his family. Although he’s already done a lot of that, on the taxpayer’s dime.
Unfortunately for them, it didn’t work out as they planned.
From Mad World News:
Reports from Palm Springs say that the Obamas were upset over all the rain they had to endure. They envisioned a sun-soaked time after leaving the White House, but instead, Mother Nature brought thunderstorms almost non-stop and that really put Michelle in a foul mood…
Michelle called on another one of their liberal billionaire friends, Richard Branson, who owns an island in the Carribean, asking if she could come stay with him right away. She was caught boarding his private jet without Barack or her daughters.
Why does this matter to us? Quite frankly, I don’t care what the Obama’s are up to, now that they are out of the White House.
But MWN suggests they were jetting around, altering their vacation plans, on taxpayers’ dime.
A change of plans like this cost taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars, with Secret Service having to be scheduled without warning and other accommodations needing to be made…
Critics have charged that when the Clinton’s left the White House in 2000, they made off with thousands of dollars worth of furniture, furnishings, and silverware. So it stands to reason that some critics will be looking into the Obama’s travel plans and behavior, to see if they are defrauding the American taxpayer.
Obama receive a $200,000 a year pension, so they are not strapped up for cash. Not only that, but I’m sure he can find lucrative opportunities—such as new book deals—in the coming years.
As far as I’m concerned, though, I’m really not interested. How do you feel about Obama’s post-presidential life not being all rainbows and unicorns? Let us know in the comments below!
