When the 2016 election was kicking into gear, many pundits believed it was the RNC that was set to implode due to its wide field of candidates and the crazy contest that ensued over who would come out on top.
The Republican National Convention in Cleveland was all the more impressive for its show of unity behind the Party’s nominee after an intense and often heated primary.
Contrasting this impressive display of country over party was the complete train wreck that was the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
Hacked DNC emails proved that Debbie Wasserman Shultz and others within the organization were rigging the primary for Hillary against Bernie Sanders.
When WikiLeaks revealed what many had suspected, it was as if a bomb went off at the convention. Chaos reigned the weekend, and Republicans sat back watching it with popcorn.
The DNC hasn’t been the same since.
Now under its third new chair within the past year, the DNC is yet again reducing itself to ashes.
From NBC News:
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez has launched a major overhaul of the party’s organization, which has been stung by recent crises — and the DNC has requested resignation letters from all current staffers.
Party staff routinely see major turnover with a new boss and they had been alerted to expect such a move. However, the mass resignation letters will give Perez a chance to completely remake the DNC’s headquarters from scratch. Staffing had already reached unusual lows following a round of post-election layoffs in December.
The constant attempts to revamp the DNC reminds one of the monster Hydra in Greek mythology.
When you cut off one of its heads, two more grow back.
After cutting off Wasserman Shultz as DNC chair, a new head, Donna Brazile, grew back. When Brazile was also cut off, Tom Perez appeared as the new head.
Will he be able to clean house and reorganize the DNC to be a functioning body? Or will he also be forced to step down over another scandal? If the latter occurs, we can count on a new head appearing. Hydra, like the DNC, is a difficult monster to slay.
Republicans will just have to wait and see what happens. Given its track record in recent months, another crisis at the DNC seems imminent. Keep the popcorn handy!
