Does Paul Ryan really care about Hillary Clinton’s wrongdoing, or is he just desperate to stay relevant?
Whatever the reason, the Republican Speaker of the House has issued a blunt statement asking the Director of National Intelligence to revoke the Democratic candidate’s access to classified intelligence briefings until further notice.
This came after the FBI announced on Friday that it was reopening its case against Clinton, whose illegal use of a private, insecure email server put highly sensitive government documents at risk.
Ryan’s statement read in part:
“Yet again, Hillary Clinton has nobody but herself to blame. She was entrusted with some of our nation’s most important secrets, and she betrayed that trust by carelessly mishandling highly classified information.”
“This decision, long overdue, is the result of her reckless use of a private email server, and her refusal to be forthcoming with federal investigators. I renew my call for the Director of National Intelligence to suspend all classified briefings for Secretary Clinton until this matter is fully resolved.”
Ryan also called upon the FBI to “conduct this investigation expeditiously” — an obvious concern considering that the election is just over one week away.
Obviously, it won’t be possible for the FBI to complete its investigation before November 8, especially since new information seems to surface daily.
However, while many have criticized the timing of this announcement, no one can deny that it is vitally important that Americans know as much as possible about just who they are voting for before they head to the polls, even if they can’t get the whole story in time.
