Have American liberals ever been as obsessed by a presidential inauguration than they are about Trump’s upcoming swearing in ceremony on January 20?
Leftist celebrities have made a great show of “refusing” to play (even though they weren’t even invited.) Meanwhile, those who are performing have been targets of ridicule.
It wouldn’t be a presidential inauguration without marching bands, but apparently even that tradition has to be politicized.
The announcement that one particular band was slated to perform led to the predictable round of “virtue signalling” and fake outrage on social media:
The marching band of Talladega College, Alabama’s oldest private historically black college, is set to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, causing outrage and backlash from some of the school’s former students.
“We were a bit horrified to hear of the invitation,” Talladega alumni Shirley Ferrill told the Associated Press. “I don’t want my alma mater to give the appearance of supporting him. Ignore, decline or whatever, but please don’t send our band out in our name to do that.”
The keyboard warriors on Twitter got together to condemn the college for agreeing to play the inauguration.
Shame on #talladegacollege ! Do not sell your souls! I hope there are protests and discussions underway on campus to stop this outrage.

Never mind that this is a once in a lifetime honor for all the musicians who’d get to go to Washington, DC and perform for a massive audience. These complainers would rather these young people do without this experience, just so they can feel smug and righteous.
As Matt Palumbo notes:
If Trump was the racist they think he is, why would he allow this school to perform at his inauguration in the first place? That’s a question a total of zero of those complaining will ask.
Exactly. How delusional do you have to be to think that a “white supremacist” would want African-Americans to help celebrate his election? If America is such a “racist” country, why do we even have “traditionally African-American colleges” such as Talladega, which was founded just a few years after the end of the Civil War?
This is just another example of race-hustlers trying to stir up controversy where none exists.
