Hey, remember when Senator Ted Kennedy asked the Soviet Union to interfere in the 1984 U.S. election?
No? Well, that’s not really a big surprise because that incident didn’t come to light until the USSR fell and the Soviet archives were briefly opened to the public. The London Times reported in 1991 that, according to secret documents, Kennedy wanted the Soviets to try to keep President Ronald Reagan from winning a second term.
However, that treasonous deal was pretty quickly dropped down the memory hole after the Times reported on it. The Kennedys were still America’s royal family and the U.S. media wanted to protect them.
Fast forward to 2016 and President Obama is self-righteously accusing the Russians of “hacking” the US elections, through the damning revelations contained in the WikiLeaks emails.
He’s been going on about this conspiracy theory for a while and the Russians have finally had enough:
According to recent reports, Putin handed out the gift of embarrassment on the world stage by calling Obama out personally. In fact, he sent out Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov to basically tell Obama to “put up or shut up.”
Saying it was “indecent” of the United States to “groundlessly” accuse Russia of intervening in the US election, he then went on to drop the bomb. “They should either stop talking about that or produce some proof at last,” Peskov said. “Otherwise it all begins to look unseemly.” (…)
According to his claims, Obama “knew” that Russia was hacking before the election but merely told them to “cut it out,” as they believed Hillary would win regardless.
The thing about lying is, it only works if you can keep your stories straight. Clearly, Obama has lost track of which talking points he’s supposed to be spouting.
Worse, he’s ignoring all the evidence that suggests that, ironically, those documents might have been leaked by a member of his own party, who was disgusted by the way Senator Bernie Sanders was being treated.
We may never know the whole truth, but if it turned out that the Democrats only had themselves to blame (and not the Russians or whoever) for their loss to Donald Trump, that would serve them right.
