It appears that the inter-party war for the future of the GOP (if it has one) is now in full effect.
Despite several high profile endorsements, the list of important Republicans who have refused to support Donald Trump is growing by the day. Both Bush presidents, the Speaker of the House and a growing number of US Senators have all refused to back him.
This is a MASSIVE problem for Trump. If he can’t find a way to win the confidence of Republican leaders and donors, it will be all but impossible to beat the Clinton Machine.
USA Today has the story of the latest defection…
Sen. Lindsey Graham said Friday that he will not vote for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton in the presidential election this fall.
“It’s hard to believe that in a nation of more than 300 million Americans Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will be our choices for President,” the South Carolina Republican announced via Twitter.
“As for me, I absolutely will not support Hillary Clinton for president. She represents the third term of Barack Obama, and our nation cannot afford to continue those failed policies at home or abroad,” he said in a prepared statement. “I also cannot in good conscience support Donald Trump because I do not believe he is a reliable Republican conservative nor has he displayed the judgment and temperament to serve as Commander in Chief.”
Personally I’m shocked to learn that Graham knows what a conservative looks like and that he has any principles to measure Trump against, but c’est la vie.
