Since the very beginning, California has been the state where Americans (and people around the world) go to “do their own thing.” However, now that philosophy may have gone too far.
In a bizarre development, California has now made child prostitution legal. It sounds like a sick joke, but notoriously flaky Governor Jerry Brown says it all makes sense. Like every other leftist brainstorm, this one is supposedly designed to “help children” but obviously it will do more to harm them:
CBS Sacramento reports that space cadet Governor Jerry Brown signed SB1322 into law on Tuesday. Among other things, this bill exempts minors from the current California prostitution laws. In other words, a person under the age of 18 can no longer be arrested for violating prostitution laws that apply to adults. (…)
Existing law makes it a crime to solicit or engage in any act of prostitution. Existing law makes it a crime to loiter in any public place with the intent to commit prostitution. This bill would make the above provisions inapplicable to a child under 18 years of age who is alleged to have engaged in conduct that would, if committed by an adult, violate the above provisions.
The idea, apparently, is to remove any stigma or record that would follow a misguided or abused child around for the rest of their lives.
But obviously, all this will do is let pimps and human traffickers get away with their crimes — because strictly speaking, they won’t be crimes anymore. By the time, lawmakers and the general public realize their mistake, who knows how many children will be harmed, in the name of “progress”?
