Thank goodness the highest court in the land is focused on the truly important issues of our time!
Remember when the Supreme Court heard cases that determined the extent of press freedom, the fate of school segregation and other urgent matters? Those days are gone.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
The Supreme Court intervened for the first time Wednesday in the controversy over transgender rights and blocked a lower court ruling that would have allowed a transgender boy to use the high school restroom that fits his “gender identity.”
In an unusual 5-3 order, the justices granted an emergency appeal from a Virginia school board, which said it is fighting to “protect the basic expectations of bodily privacy of Gloucester County students.”
The school board was seeking to be exempted from the Obama administration’s position that schools nationwide are required to allow transgender students to use the bathroom they prefer.
Again, the priorities of America’s elite ruling class are on display. Obama’s White House cares more about the imaginary “rights” of transsexuals (who make up less than one per cent of the population) than about the common sense, very legitimate privacy rights of non-transsexual children and adults.
On top of this, the death this year of Antonin Scalia means that, what ever the topic at hand, many of the court’s rulings will end in 4-4 deadlocks, which isn’t in the best interest of justice.
The November election—and the appointment of a new, preferably conservative, justice by a new president — can’t come soon enough.
