Guess what? We are finally entering the twilight of the 8 years of the Obama presidency!
I am sure most of us are well aware of the weighty election cycle looming in November, but in case you hadn’t noticed… now you can count down too!
One way or another we will have a new Commander in Chief on January 20th next year. One leading GOP candidate, Ted Cruz, is already making some bold statements concerning his plans for that day, when he might be sworn in.
Via The Blaze:
“If I’m elected president, let me tell you about my first day in office,” Cruz said. “The first thing I plan to do is to rescind every illegal and unconstitutional action taken by Barack Obama.”
“The next thing I intend to do,” he continued, “is instruct the Department of Justice to open and investigation into these videos and prosecute Planned Parenthood for any criminal violations.”
Third, Cruz said he would direct the DOJ and the IRS to put an end to the persecution of religious liberty.
“I then intend to cancel the Iran deal and, finally, move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem,” he added. “I will keep my word…I will fight to defend liberty because my family knows what it’s like to lose it.”
As time ticks on we can hearken back to Reagan’s point that “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” And take solace that since the 50’s no one president can rule for an entire generation. Now we just have to hope that Paul Ryan can lead the GOP in the House as a check to the power of the executive until such time as a President like Cruz can reign in the executive branch.
I am sure Senator Cruz grew up hearing stories about tyranny seeing as his Cuban born father was forced to flee Cuba as Fidel Castro and Che Guevara unleashed a bloody rule on their country.
Unfortunately, before any GOP candidate can take to the Oval Office we will have to rally the party behind a single candidate, which in that past proved difficult.
If we as a nation are going to begin to bring balance back to our government than we will have to make sure that we exercise our most fundamental democratic right and duty: vote!
Reuters currently shows 7.4% of Republicans plan to stay home. Can we all agree to do our part to make sure Democracy lives on?
