It’s becoming quite clear that the overwhelming majority of the Democratic Party will not rest until President Donald Trump is wished well in future endeavors.
Calls for impeachment began to ring out shortly after Trump’s surprising victory over Hillary Clinton was confirmed, and the drumbeat gets louder each time the liberal hysteria kicks into overdrive.
Reports that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer during the campaign have certainly done just that. Democratic leadership and the mainstream media smell blood in the water, and that’s led the hyperbole meter to be cranked up to full blast.
Rep. Brad Sherman, (D-CA) has decided to pull off his own version of seize the day in response. The grandstanding congressman has formally introduced articles of impeachment against the president, but there’s a slight problem.
As McClatchy explains, it seems that he’s hearing little more than crickets from his Democratic colleagues.
Other Democrats have expressed concern about Sherman’s effort to impeach Trump over possible ties to Russia, and the resolution had only one cosponsor, Rep. Al Green, D-Tex. A successful vote for impeachment would require a majority in the House, where Republicans have 46 more seats than Democrats.
As you would expect, Sherman’s articles are heavy on adjectives, fear-mongering and spin, but they are also devoid of substance. In essence, it’s chock full of talking points that you would hear on one of the slew of Trump-bashing panels that are a staple of mainstream news broadcasts.
The articles accuse Trump of violating “his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of president of the United States.” Trump “has prevented, obstructed and impeded the administration of justice during a federal investigation,” Sherman’s resolution says.
But wait – there’s more! The nefarious president has also prevented good old James Comey, the former FBI director that Trump canned, from doing his job.
“In all of this, Donald John Trump has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as president and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States,” the articles read. “Wherefore, Donald John Trump, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office.”
There doesn’t appear to be any mention of the fact that Comey had trouble doing his job well before Trump was in the picture.
Add it all up, and we have a Democratic congressman introducing something on the House floor that does absolutely nothing but give him his 15 minutes in the sun. As the president might say, that’s just sad!
