When President Trump promised to put America first, he meant it.
For far too long we’ve had presidents that placated foreign powers and nations. They kowtowed for the favor of other countries, submitting to their rules and standards, while neglecting the standards of the U.S. Constitution.
Governing bodies around the world, from the U.N. to the E.U., have tried to bully the United States. Their bureaucracies and tyrannical mandates have forced our country to lower its standards or to bleed us dry with dues and funding. All the while these groups look the other way when countries abuse their people or deprive them of rights.
Our participation in such practices is about to end, thanks to more executive orders from President Trump.
From New York Times:
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is preparing executive orders that would clear the way to drastically reduce the United States’ role in the United Nations and other international organizations, as well as begin a process to review and potentially abrogate certain forms of multilateral treaties.
The first of the two draft orders, titled “Auditing and Reducing U.S. Funding of International Organizations” and obtained by The New York Times, calls for terminating funding for any United Nations agency or other international body that meets any one of several criteria.
Those criteria include organizations that give full membership to the Palestinian Authority or Palestine Liberation Organization, or support programs that fund abortion or any activity that circumvents sanctions against Iran or North Korea. The draft order also calls for terminating funding for any organization that “is controlled or substantially influenced by any state that sponsors terrorism” or is blamed for the persecution of marginalized groups or any other systematic violation of human rights.
It’s shocking to realize that under Obama, we were supporting or working with nations that funded terrorism or deprived their people of human rights. The United Nations is particularly terrible at combating terrorism or confronting nations that fund it. They placate nations like Iran or North Korea, who openly threaten their neighbors and the United States.
The fact that our money was going to aid Palestine, a movement aimed at destroying Israel, is unacceptable.
What critics of the President refuse to acknowledge is by putting American interests first, we are setting a tone for how the rest of the world operates. It is wrong for our government to use taxpayer dollars to fund groups that, in turn, fund terrorists or persecute their own people. When President Trump stands up to such policies, other nations will follow.
Perhaps the United Nations will take a queue and start confronting these human rights violations, if enough countries withdraw support. Perhaps we will actually see the leading nations of the world take a stand against terrorism and tyranny.
It all starts with us.
