What a blow to the media.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney may have apologized about his ding to the press just recently – but it didn’t make the sting go away. Truth hurts, as they say.
Cheney, at a recent event where he was discussing security and foreign policy with President Obama’s former defense secretary, Leon Panetta, and with a CNN reporter, Barbara Starr, let loose with a jab that cut to the core of Donald Trump’s success, and simultaneously, with the mainstream media’s dying influence.
Here’s what transpired, thanks to Joe For America: Cheney said Trump was appointing good people for his cabinet posts and taking his job as White House chief very seriously.
“I think one of the reasons people get so concerned about the tweets is it is sort of a way around the press,” Cheney said. “He doesn’t have to really upon, uh, rely upon – this is the modern era, modern technology.”
Wait for it – wait for it. And this is what Cheney said next, in presence of CNN’s Starr.
“He’s at the point where we don’t need you guys anymmore,” Cheney said.
“I apologize,” Cheney said quickly.
But too late: The comment, though humorous, is laced with truth.
