The left keeps denying it, but the fact remains that illegal immigration is an epidemic. Millions of people illegally cross our border every year. And while liberals want you to believe that these are decent, hard-working folks, many of them are dangerous criminals.
The bottom line is illegals don’t exist, according to our government. We don’t know who they are or that they are even here. They don’t have Social Security cards, driver’s licenses (legal ones), or any documentation that would enable the government to hold them accountable should they break the law.
And break the law they do. We’ve talked about the kind of heinous crimes illegal immigrants from Mexico have committed in this country. These weren’t stand-alone instances, either. Most of the worst crimes were committed by repeat offenders who had been jailed or even deported before. Yet because of our weak border protection, they managed to return and cause more havoc.
This most recent story shows just how much illegal immigration is costing U.S. citizens.
From Washington Times:
Angel Gilberto Garcia-Avalos had been deported five times in just the past four years, yet each time he has managed to sneak from Mexico back into the U.S., where he ended up in more mischief: driving without a license, attempted burglary and felony weapons charges.
In August, he graduated to full-fledged mayhem, sparking a fire in the Sequoia National Forest that has already cost the government $61 million and left some of the country’s most beautiful landscape scarred for years to come.
Garcia, who pleaded guilty last month and faces 13 months in prison, had only recently been released from the Kern County Jail. He likely would have been deported again, but local authorities were unable to report him to immigration authorities because of California’s new sanctuary city law, which prohibited the sheriff from communicating with federal agents.
Even though Garcia-Avalos has broken numerous laws before, even though he caused a fire that has already cost tax payers $61 million, he is free to live in America unabated, because of California’s ridiculous sanctuary laws.
How is that right? How is that fair to all the hard working American citizens? When an American breaks the law, you can be sure they will face the full penalty. But when an illegal breaks the law, they can run to a sanctuary city and not face the proper punishment.
John Chatel, an endangered species specialist who led the Forest Service’s evaluation team after the fire, said it wasn’t the most damaging burn he has seen but added that the effects could last for years.
Of the 29,000 acres that were touched by fire, more than half sustained moderate or high-intensity burns. Communities were evacuated in two counties, and a handful of cabins and outbuildings were scorched.
A terrible event. And one that could have been avoided, if only our government actually protected our borders.
