Comedian Jay Leno has spent most of his career steering clear of politics. It’s one of the reasons the Tonight Show was so popular when he was the host, and what makes him a big draw as a stand up comedian to this day.
However, in a rare interview, Leno revealed his opinions about Donald Trump. Republican voters can judge for themselves what Leno was trying to get across.
Breitbart has the story:
“I think this is the problem with Donald Trump,” Leno said. “I don’t think anybody has just ever beaten the crap out of him, so he has this attitude of ‘whatever.’ When you have the crap beat out of you, you learn how to negotiate, you learn how to deal with people.”
The 66-year-old former Tonight Show host told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview that the problem with the Republican presidential nominee is he doesn’t know how to treat people with kindness, which could be fixed if he simply experienced getting beaten up.Leno had previously stated that he had no interest in interviewing Trump, and even had trouble thinking up jokes about the candidate because of the “ugliness” of Trump’s campaign.
In any event, many people have come forward with stories of Trump’s generosity and, yes, kindness, but somehow Leno must have missed those. Leno seems to think that “being nice” is the best qualification a president can have, but America isn’t picking a neighbor or a new best friend — they’re choosing a leader of the country. And as far as “learning to negotiate” is concerned, that’s something Trump already knows a lot about.
All in all, a pretty incoherent bunch of objections. Not Jay Leno’s best moment.
