The MSM’s latest obsession comes courtesy of the report that Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort had a previously undisclosed meeting with a Russian lawyer during the presidential campaign.
The implication from the report is that the lawyer had information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton that could be useful to the Trump campaign.
The meeting took place, but Trump Jr. quickly realized that the lawyer was simply attempting to get face time for an issue she’s passionate about. The meeting produced nothing of substance and ended quickly.
When the report first came to light, Trump Jr. rightfully dismissed it as a complete non-story, but then all hell broke loose.
Before you knew it, the press was frothing at the mouth as it was the smoking gun they have been feverishly looking for to put a nice little bow on its never-ending speculation about alleged Russian collusion to impact the 2016 presidential race.
While Trump Jr. has been completely transparent by releasing the entire email chain of events, that hasn’t quelled the media’s thirst for blood. The story is receiving wall-to-wall coverage, and it’s being treated as if it’s the missing piece needed to tie up the most treacherous scandal in the history of scandals.
Unsurprisingly, a key piece of information has been missing from the crack reporting and endless commentary on this latest angle.
As the Washington Times explains, the Democrats have been using misinformation from Russia as the basis for their endless attacks against President Donald Trump and his administration.
The disinformation came in the form of a Russian-fed dossier written by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele. It contains a series of unverified criminal charges against Mr. Trump’s campaign aides, such as coordinating Moscow’s hacking of Democratic Party computers.
Some Democrats have widely circulated the discredited information. Mr. Steele was paid by the Democrat-funded opposition research firm Fusion GPS with money from a Hillary Clinton backer. Fusion GPS distributed the dossier among Democrats and journalists. The information fell into the hands of the FBI, which used it in part to investigate Mr. Trump’s campaign aides.
Mr. Steele makes clear that his unproven charges came almost exclusively from sources linked to the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He identified his sources as “a senior Russian Foreign Ministry figure,” a former “top level Russian intelligence officer active inside the Kremlin,” a “senior Kremlin official” and a “senior Russian government official.”
That’s a pretty interesting point, to say the least. While the media is doing logical backflips to prove Trump Jr. had any connection to Russia, it is plain as day that Democrats are more than happy to spread Russian disinformation, even after it is discredited.
For those that are concerned that the Democratic Party and the mainstream media have successfully changed the narrative, you can rest assured that they are completely overplaying their hand yet again.
As we’ve seen time and again, this latest ‘bombshell’ will amount to nothing more than a blip in the grand scheme of things, while Democrats are clearly guilty of many of the allegations they throw at their opposition.
