At this point we can pretty much rule out those conspiracy theories that Obama was going to stage a coup so he could serve an illegal third term.
So what are his plans after he (finally) leaves office after this election? Is he going to join the celebrities who keep threatening to leave the country if they don’t like the results?
The White House press secretary created some trouble for his boss, when he gave a vague, even weird, answer to that very question this week:
“He’s working very hard to make sure that nobody has to leave the country as a result of an electoral outcome that the president doesn’t support,” press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday during a news briefing on Air Force One, as reported by Politico. (…)
Is the president himself among those paranoid Americans riddled with fear over the GOP candidate’s potential presidency? This line of thinking might sound conspiratorial, but what the president himself said later that evening on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” only bolstered this perception.
On that show, Obama said he was “worried” about “the course of the country” more now than he’d been when he ran against McCain and Romney.
Would he be so worried that he’d feel obligated to stick around in some unofficial capacity and “help”?
We’ll only know after November 8.
