A Republican’s wish has actually come true (well, maybe not for Graham, Boehner, McCain and McConnell). And the genie in the bottle is none other than Newt Gingrich!
Approximately 20 years ago, while Newt and the newly minted majority Republican Congress were taking power, the opinionated and controversial Speaker of the House penned a bill entitled the Congressional Review Act. This new bill was passed and entered into the books of our government, granting Congress the extensive ability to rescind last minute Executive Orders and presidential edicts.
President Obama is no stranger to controversy regarding his extra-Constitutional activities at midnight on a Friday. Critics have shouted from the hilltops warning of his rampant Executive Order abuse.
The Boston Globe has recently delved into this newest plan by the Trump transition team to do away with much of the Obama Legacy agenda items, but echoes of the Congressional Review Act are ringing louder as we draw nearer to Inauguration Day on January 20th.
According to Yes I’m Right website, the CRA will assist Trump’s team by going after Obama’s most recent edicts:
[I]t essentially calls into question all of Obama and his administration’s regulations in America in 2016. It means that anything and everything can be called into question and repealed.
Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasso is leading the charge for this effort. “His legacy lost. The American people said ‘No, we don’t want that. We want to change direction.’”
The Boston Globe piece concluded: “While Barrasso and other Republicans say the tool allows them to rescind “last minute” regulations pushed by the Obama administration…they will most likely be able to take aim at regulations put in place as far back as May.”
Yes I’m Right makes its point:
All of Obama’s policies this year have led to America saying “we’ve had enough,” culminating in the election of Donald Trump. That move, by the American people, was a huge move in the right direction. We’ve had enough and the ones listening are now the ones in power.
It seems that the ghosts of its past has come back to haunt the Democrats more often than not these days. Take, for instance, Harry Reid’s “nuclear option” in the Senate requiring a mere 51 votes to pass bills. And now, the genie has been let out of the bottle! Make a wish, America!
