Awkward – at least, if this story involved conservatives, it would be. But it doesn’t. And since the left rarely shows shame, chances are this matter isn’t awkward for the players and participants in the least.
But for the rest of us, it’s an outrage.
Here’s the story, from the Daily Caller: “An activist who bragged about disrupting multiple Donald Trump campaign events in a recent Project Veritas video was on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign payroll, a search of Federal Election Commission records reveals.”
How about that?
James O’Keefe’s newest Project Veritas release shows clips of Zulema Rodriguez at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, where the activist actually brags a bit about sparking violent protests in Chicago at a Trump rally – so violent, in fact, the Republican presidential hopeful was forced to call off his event.
That was in March. But Rodriguez, on the video, couldn’t wait to tell her side and boast of her role.
“So, [Aaron Black] and I did the Chicago Trump event where we shut down like all the yeah,” he said, adding moments later that he also helped shut a major highway down in Arizona during a separate Trump even in March, the Daily Caller reported.
So who is this Rodriguez lady?
“Notably,” the Daily Caller reported, “a search of FEC records reveals that Rodriguez was paid by the Clinton campaign shortly before she disrupted the Chicago rally. The campaign paid her $1,610.34 as a ‘payroll’ expense, and also gave her a $30 payment that is described only as a ‘phone.'”
The payments, coincidentally, are dated Feb. 29, less that two weeks before the protests in Chicago stopped the Trump affair. And it’s not as if Rodriguez were a long-time Clinton staffer or something. In fact, she has only been paid twice by the Clinton camp – on Feb. 29.
The Daily Caller reports “it’s not immediately clear what the payment was for and it’s also unclear whether Rodriguez was really behind the agitation in Chicago or if she was simply making an empty boast.”
But the timing sure is coincidental – and her statements sure are certain.
“In the months afterward,” the Daily Caller went on, “Rodriguez was paid handsomely by other political operations. She received a $1,108.97 travel reimbursement from MoveOn.org Political Action in May, and in June she was paid a whopping $17,500 by Stand Up For Ohio PAC as a “political consulting fee.”
This might be a case of if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, walks like a duck – well then, it must be a duck.
