The revelation of the “Panama Papers” has been making waves all across the world, bringing down at least one world leader already.
Now there is evidence that connects candidate for President, Hillary Clinton, to this massive documentation of corruption.
According to Breitbart, Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, has ties to Russian bank Sberbank, which has been embroiled in the tax-avoidance scandal. Not good.
“Podesta’s eponymous Podesta Group lobbying firm took on Sberbank as a client only a month ago. John Podesta’s brother Anthony, who bundles campaign donations for Clinton, is listed as the lobbyist for the Sberbank account.
Both Sberbank and the Troika Dialog Group are linked with companies used by members of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s inner circle to shift government funds into personal offshore accounts, according to allegations leveled by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the group managing the Panama Papers story – for example, leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca that showed Troika Dialog secretly signing away interest in a Russian truck manufacturer to an offshore company called Avto Holdings, owned by close Putin friend Sergei Roldugin.”
This is a big ball of string, so we’ll try to break it down.
The Panama Papers have exposed a vast network of companies and organizations that are illegally hiding money, perhaps to avoid taxes or to fund other suspicious activities.
One of the banks responsible for this behavior has a working relationship with Clinton’s close allies.
Now there’s no evidence suggesting that Hillary had anything to do with this scandal, but it doesn’t look good.
She’s already involved in an investigation related to her email accounts, suggesting she has an above-the-law attitude when it comes to her own behavior.
Her connection with a vast money-hiding scheme isn’t completely out of the blue.
At the very least, she and her people knew about it and tried to cover it up.
“This is the first Panama Papers story to touch an American political figure, leading to some speculation that Clinton and her media allies knew it was coming, and have been trying to hustle the news cycle along to keep it from damaging the Clinton campaign. Both the tax-avoidance angle and the notion of Clinton campaign big shots working for Putin cronies are narratives that could prove useful to her rival Sen. Bernie Sanders at this delicate stage of the Democrat primary race.”
Ouch. How much does Hillary hate WikiLeaks right now?
If word spreads that Clinton’s allies are comfy with Putin and his goons, it won’t go well for her. Especially now that we’re reaching the end of the Primaries and every vote, every news story, can make or break her campaign.
Don’t be surprised when she comes out trying to belittle this story, or when certain media outlets outright ignore it. But I guarantee Bernie’s not going to ignore it, nor will the FBI and other enforcement organizations.
It’s getting very sticky for the Clinton campaign. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
