Pelosi thought Trump didn’t have a chance, but Congress found a way to make Mexicans pay.
Since he became president, Donald Trump has demanded that Congress build the border wall.
The proposed project would cost $25 billion and eventually be reimbursed by Mexico.
Until now, Republicans in Congress refused to cooperate.
But it looks like a new plan—pushed through by the end of the year—might ensure the funding happens after all.
The WALL Act would give the government $25 billion toward construction and would be funded by what supporters call “loopholes” in the current immigration system…
The proposal was introduced by four Republican lawmakers, including Cruz, a senator from Texas, Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, John Kennedy from Louisiana, and Mike Rounds, a senator from South Dakota.

Where are they going to get the $25 billion? By increasing fines on illegal border crossers.
The bill would also create a minimum penalty for people who stay beyond their visa limits—a common way border jumpers stick around.
Republican senators are also looking for a way to close loopholes that allow migrants to take government handouts. The bill will require work-authorized Social Security numbers for anyone who wants tax refunds.
There are only a few short weeks before the new Congress takes over. That means a House controlled by Democrats.
It’s very unlikely that Democrats will sponsor this bill—even when it doesn’t cost the government a dime.
They will protect caravans and border jumpers tooth and nail. Even if it hurts you and me.
Republicans have to act fast. But do they have enough time? They might not.
If the wall doesn’t get built, we only have one group to blame: Congress.
