The news out of Indiana recently has been bleak.
With thousands of U.S. jobs being shipped to Mexico, it makes sense why so many Americans are angry at the current establishment in Washington. But you might be wondering why so many support an aggressive, extreme candidate like Donald Trump or even Bernie Sanders.
Let us explain.
United Technologies, the most recent job destroyers from Indiana, are doing quite well. They do billions of dollars every year for the federal government.
Their CEO, Gregory Hayes earned around $10 million in 2014 and over $20 million in 2013. The company earned over $7.6 billion in profits last year, up from $6.2 from the year before and $5.7 in 2014.
It’s plain to see they do well for themselves. And it’s safe to say they have a good relationship with Washington.
But this amazing success has not resulted in better wages for their workers or improved conditions.
In fact, as we’ve reported, they’re ruining the lives of thousands of workers in America. “How is this possible?” you may ask.
It’s because, by and large, they’re using their influence in Washington to solely benefit the upper management.
As reported by Huffington Post, Senator Joe Donnelly has this to say:
“Yesterday was a really bad day for my home state of Indiana,” Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) said at a hearing on Thursday, noting that 2,100 Carrier workers had been notified of their impending termination at a company that had operated in Indiana since the early 1950s. Donnelly’s outrage was directed mostly at the lobbying establishment.
“These same folks said if we put in tax extenders, things like bonus depreciation, research credit, [the Export-Import] bank. I sat here and fought for Ex-Im Bank because these folks came in here and said this will help American jobs stay in America,” Donnelly decried.
So this wealthy, powerful company, United Technologies, blatantly lied to U.S. Senators to allow for measures that made the CEO and his cohorts more money, but did nothing to protect the jobs of their workers.
This kind of nonsense has been going on for years in Washington. The current establishment is just too stupid or corrupt to see they are being played.
“Both Republicans and Democrats have consistently backed economic policies over the past 35 years that have systematically gutted the American middle class. For decades, Congress has listened to corporate lobbyists who told our representatives that if they could just cut this one tax rate, or just ease this one regulation, there would be a renaissance of prosperity. The renaissance has happened for the rich. Everyone else has been left behind.”
It doesn’t take a political analyst to see why Americans are ditching the established leadership (both Democrats and Republicans) for outsiders like Trump and Sanders. When a successful businessman promises renewed prosperity, to return jobs to America, and end insider Washington nonsense, the American people will listen.
They’ll even listen to an extremist like Sanders who puts the blame on politicians who roll over for the big shots on Wall Street. Their methods are different, but the results are the same: people are supporting them instead of the established politicians.
As more and more companies abandoned American workers and try to increase profits at the expense of the economy, outside candidates will only gain more steam. But time will tell if the policies of Trump or Sanders will even be put into effect, let only have an effect on our country.
