What’s Happening:
Joe Manchin betrayed the country to support Biden’s tax bill–all in exchange for another deal.
Democrats in the Senate are willing to support a pipeline to West Virginia. But House Democrats made it very clear, that they are not going along with that plan.
But if the left reneges on this shady, backdoor deal, it could bring the government to a halt.
From The Hill:
House Natural Resources Chairman Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) is circulating a letter asking leadership to separate the Manchin deal out from a continuing resolution that would temporarily avert a government shutdown…
That sets up a potential shutdown crisis if progressives block a funding bill over the inclusion of the permitting reform language and Democrats can’t find the votes elsewhere.
Never make a deal with the devil, even if the devil is promising you a pipeline.
Because chances are, you will get nothing for your soul.
House progressives are demanding party leaders separate the pipeline deal from the upcoming funding bill.
If the Manchin deal isn’t removed from the continuing resolution, they might vote it down. That means no funding for the government, leading to an immediate shutdown.
It’s pretty hilarious that Democrats are so fragmented, that they can’t even work out a CR deal among themselves.
They know they will have little support from Republicans, so they will need every last Democrat in the House to vote for this.
But will radical socialists like AOC or Ilhan Omar really vote for a bill that also allows a pipeline?
Chances are, AOC will vote for it, since she is a fake socialist and environmentalist.
But there might be enough true believers in the House–who can’t afford to claim they are progressive and vote for a pipeline.
It all comes down to whether Democrats will include Manchin’s deal in the CR. If they remove it, it will surely fail.
So, Manchin might have sold out the country… for nothing.
Sounds about right.
Key Takeaways:
- Manchin’s pipeline deal is tied to an upcoming government funding bill.
- Progressives are demanding it be removed from the CR or they might not vote for it.
- If progressives refuse to vote for the CR, it could lead to a government shutdown.
