Peltola will become the first Alaska native to serve in Congress and the first woman to hold the house seat from the state.

The state opted to use a “ranked-choice” voting system that gave Peltola the upper hand.

Which meant, that because there were two Republicans on the ballot, Peltola had the upper hand. When everything was said and done, the Democrat had 51.5% of the vote to Palin’s 48.5%.

The media is celebrating Peltola’s win, focusing on her native background.

The ranked-choice system helped the candidate win, who supports climate change spending, Obamacare, abortion rights, and the leftist LGBTQ Equality Act.

As confusing as this new system is, the race for Alaska’s one congressional seat is not over yet.

Peltola will serve out the rest of the current term. But a November race will be held, with four candidates, which will determine who will serve a full two-year term.

This election should put a fire under the GOP’s feet to not take anything to chance. Even small changes to election rules can upend a “safe” race, as we’ve seen in recent years.
