What’s Happening:
Did you think Andrew Cuomo’s problems were over? As it turns out, they may only be starting. When allegations came out earlier in the year, Cuomo appeared defiant and unyielding. Only when the pressure became unavoidable did Cuomo finally resign.
But the allegations against him weren’t just going to go away. Based on what some people claim, Cuomo could have broken the law numerous times. And it seems at least some prosecutors were not going to back down, just because he resigned. Now, he might face serious charges and jail time.
From the NY Post:
Disgraced ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo was charged Thursday with groping a former aide in Albany’s Executive Mansion — a crime that could send him to jail for a year if he’s convicted.
A misdemeanor criminal complaint filed in Albany City Court alleges that Cuomo, 63, “did intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose, forcibly place his hand under the blouse shirt of the victim … and onto her intimate body part.”
Numerous women have come forward to accuse former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo of assault, harassment, or other forms of mistreatment. Cuomo denied every last one of them but resigned after the pressure become overwhelming.
Now it appears one of those cases has resulted in a criminal charge. We learned months ago that Albany police was investigating the claim of a woman who said Cuomo groped her in the governor’s mansion. After Cuomo resigned from office, authorities assured the public that they were continuing their investigation.
Cuomo will now be forced to defend himself. If he is convicted, he could spend up to one year in jail.
What will the outcome of this case be? Rest assured, Cuomo will try to fight this thing tooth and nail. Even if he’s found guilty, he might get out of serving jail time. But stranger things have happened. Other disgraced New York Democrats have been thrown in jail for their crimes.
Could Cuomo end up in jail? We can’t say. But it’s a dark end to the story of a man who wreaked havoc on New York. Cuomo passed strict and agonizing lockdown measures last year, waiting longer than most states to lift them. He also passed a mandate against health care workers that have resulted in thousands losing their jobs.
It does not seem Cuomo did right by the state in any way, shape, or form. We wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in jail.
At least it will give him time to write his next book, right?
