There was a lot at stake during the 2016 Presidential Election. More than most people realized.
While the media focused on the candidates’ personalities, finding faults in Donald Trump and praising Hillary Clinton, often the most fundamental issues were overlooked.
We knew that the next president would appoint up to four new Supreme Court Justices, influencing our country for decades to come. We knew that he would have a large say in foreign policy, immigration, and the environment, issues that would affect every American life.
Now that Trump will soon be sworn into office, we are learning more and more of his power to change the country. Many issues will be determined by his presidency, many more of Obama’s will be overturned.
And it’s got the left in an epic panic.
Liberals are panicking about the fact that President-elect Donald Trump will be able to fill four vacancies on the historically left-leaning Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals when he takes office later this month…
Liberals are worried about that increasing “moderation” at the Ninth Circuit. KQED interviewed University of Richmond law professor Carl Tobias, who commented: “I think even in the Obama years the court has moved to be more moderate than it used to be, so I think that with those four appointments it could make some difference and move the court further in that direction.”
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has been influential in many recent cases, some touching on Second Amendment rulings. Of course they were a major factor in bringing gay marriage to the Supreme Court, which chose to make it nationally legal.
With Trump already announcing conservative choices for the Supreme Court, he will no doubt select similar candidates for the Ninth Circuit.
A more conservative court will have a dramatic impact on West Coast states, which have grown radically liberal in recent years. The Ninth Circuit could sway policy in that part of America back to the right, giving voice to the many conservatives who are ignored by their leaders.
