Hours After Hurricane Ian Hammers Florida – First Lady DeSantis Makes Star Turn in Announcement on Fundraising

What’s Happening:

Hurricane Ian made its mark on the state of Florida. The governor will continue to lead rescue efforts and assess the damage.

The historic storm left countless communities battered. But within hours, First Lady Casey DeSantis was on hand with a stunning announcement.

From Daily Wire:

Florida first lady Casey DeSantis announced Thursday evening that within just a few hours of activating the Florida Disaster Fund that more than $10 million has been raised to support communities impacted by Hurricane Ian…

“These private sector contributions will be deployed quickly and effectively to meet the immediate needs of those most impacted by the storm. We cannot thank people enough for their generosity.”

In one day, the Florida Disaster Fund raised over $10 million to help people in need.

These donations came from Americans all across the country, as well as private sector contributions.

(Proving, once again, how vital the private sector is in times of trouble.)

Organizations donated to the cause, including Walmart, the National Christian Foundation, and the PGA Tour.

On top of this, the governor’s office was able to secure other support from private companies. That includes truckloads of water, millions of pounds of ice, truck drivers across the South, and constant deliveries of needed supplies.

DeSantis even got Uber to provide round-trip rides to residents fleeing to shelters.

This major out-pouring of support is in direct contrast to media outlets that tried to use the historic storm to push politics.

Liberal outlets called out DeSantis, before the storm landed, questioning his ability to address the crisis.

I guess those reporters will have to eat crow, as DeSantis and the first lady of Florida continue to roll out incredible amounts of support.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida first lady Casey DeSantis announced in one day, the Florida Disaster Fund raised $10 million.
  • The money will go to helping communities recover after Hurricane Ian.
  • The governor has also enlisted the help of large companies, who are donating money and services.
