It’s still one of the biggest blunders of the Joe Biden administration according to critics: the well-documented Afghanistan debacle.
Critics accuse Biden of a botched evacuation process among many other problems, and that includes poor vetting of over 85K Afghan refugees.
Then there’s the now-infamous “watch check” — and the GOP reminds us of this on its 1-year anniversary.
13 Marines were killed in the bombing of Kabul and a year ago, they were returned to the United States with the appropriate honors.
As expected, President Biden attended the return ceremony, as did other high-ranking members in Washington, including First Lady Jill Biden.
However, cameras caught POTUS doing something that was potentially hugely insulting.
And the GOP has chosen to remind America of this in a new tweet:
One year ago today, Joe Biden checked his watch and Veterans @michaelgwaltz & @TonyGonzales4TX have something to say about it. pic.twitter.com/uLmXcjsnFh

Reps. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) and Mike Waltz (R-FL) are veterans, and they had a few choice words for Biden’s apparent blunder.
Gonzalez simply called it “disgusting” and added that “this is the reason why our government doesn’t care about us.”
Republicans also shared a longer video that marked the anniversary of the bombing in question and in it, Rep. Waltz says:
When it comes to Afghanistan, Joe Biden is either ignorant, lying, or both.
Last year 5 veterans @JakeEllzey, @TonyGonzales4TX, @BrianMastFL, @michaelgwaltz & @RonnyJacksonTX sat down in the midst of Joe Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal to discuss his failure.
One year later, they have the same message to every veteran – your sacrifice was Not In Vain. pic.twitter.com/Cve5quYrlY

Rep. Gonzalez also said that “Afghanistan was a monumental failure” and Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) called it “the most F-ed up military operation I’ve ever witnessed.”
The Biden administration hasn’t managed to shake the shadow of this debacle, and it seems Republicans won’t let America forget.
While other issues are likely to dominate the upcoming midterm elections – inflation, the economy, and abortion – many citizens can’t help but remember Afghanistan.
And when it comes to crises, this is arguably the worst of the entire Biden administration so far.
Key Takeaways:
- The GOP posted a clip of Biden “checking his watch” during the return of 13 Marines who died in Afghanistan.
- This is the 1-year-anniversary of that gaffe, and many veterans refuse to forget it.
- Rep. Gonzales called the move “disgusting” and says it proves the government doesn’t care about the military.
