Hypocrisy, thy name is Washington, DC.
I always thought it shameful of U.S. politicians who call for gun control, depriving citizens of the ability to protect themselves, while they pay for armed body guards. They understand the need to have armed protect from criminals, radical protestors, and terrorists.
Makes sense, the Second Amendment was added because there are dangerous people out there.
But even more shocking is amount of non-military government employees who are also armed. And I’m not talking about a handgun, or a few body guards. I’m talking about serious firepower.
From Free Beacon:
Open the Books, a taxpayer watchdog group, released a study Wednesday that finds domestic government agencies continue to grow their stockpiles of military-style weapons, as Democrats sat on the House floor calling for more restrictions on what guns American citizens can buy.
The “Militarization of America” report found civilian agencies spent $1.48 billion on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment between 2006 and 2014. Examples include IRS agents with AR-15s, and EPA bureaucrats wearing camouflage.
Let’s hope that EPA camouflage is green, am I right? This is unbelievable. While the Democrat crow and complain about how easy it is for law-abiding Americans to get guns, they are spending BILLIONS (thats with a “b”) on weapons for their government flunkies. And this is about more than just to protect themselves. They are equipped to take you down.
Open the Books found there are now over 200,000 non-military federal officers with arrest and firearm authority, surpassing the 182,100 personnel who are actively serving in the U.S. Marines Corps.
Arrest authority. These aren’t military. These are law enforcement agents. These are bureacrats who now have the means and power to arrest American citizens. And just where do you think the lion-share of these weapons went? You guessed it, the IRS.
The IRS spent nearly $11 million on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment for its 2,316 special agents. The tax collecting agency has billed taxpayers for pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns, semi-automatic Smith & Wesson M&P15s, and Heckler & Koch H&K 416 rifles, which can be loaded with 30-round magazines.
Do tax-collectors really need semi-automatic shotguns? Are the tax delinquent really going to shoot back? Is this another example of government agencies spending money just because they can (a very common occurrence) or does the IRS really need 30-round magazines for their rifles?
Now is the time to exercise your freedoms. If the government is working so hard to arm themselves, we should too. You have a guaranteed right to own a firearm in this nation. Don’t let the government be the only one to use it.
