One of the most shameful acts on Hillary Clinton’s record (and there are many) is the way she handled the attacks on the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. Her mishandling of the situation, while blatantly ignoring requests for help, is one of the major signs that she is unfit to lead our country.
The fallout of the attack–which led to four Americans, including our ambassador dead–shows how a democratic majority government can protect its own, even when they are guilty of terrible misdeeds.
We are learning only now that the committee responsible for holding then Secretary of State Clinton accountable for her mistakes was rigged. They were given questions by Hillary’s people, while avoiding the real issues that lead to the tragic attack.
The chief intelligence correspondent for Fox News reported Tuesday that Hillary R. Clinton’s team successfully planted questions with Sen. Robert Menendez (D.-N.J.), the acting Senate Foreign Relations chairman, for the committee’s Jan. 23, 2013 Benghazi hearing.
Catherine Herridge reported that Phillipe Reines, who served as deputy assistant secretary of state for strategic communications assured Chelsea Clinton that Menendez was on board with the former first lady’s messages goals: “We wired it that Menendez would provide an opportunity to address two topics we needed to debunk (her actions/whereabouts on 9/11, and these email from Chris Stevens about moving locations,)”
Menendez, an insider politician, didn’t hold Clinton accountable for the deaths of the Americans. He asked her softball questions that let her defend herself, while ignoring the fact that she ignored their pleas for aid and refused to send forces into Benghazi.
We know had Hillary and the State Department acted sooner, those men would not have died. But because of her poor leadership, help never came.
No mention of the Marines in Rota, Spain, members of the Fleet Anti-terrorism Strike Team, ordered off the plane to change into civilian clothes because Clinton’s State Department did not like the optics of uniformed troops invading Libya. Those Marines would deplane one more time to change back into their uniforms, but their plane never took off.
Nor was there mention of the Green Berets three hours away in Croatia. Those Special Forces personnel were ready to go, but after the planes arrived to take them to Benghazi, someone at a headquarters somewhere ordered their pilots to take a mandatory sleep break before flying again. Those men also never took off for Benghazi. Then, there were the paratroopers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade at Vicenza, Italy, the ships at sea off the coast and all the other resources and assets that stayed cold.
It’s clear we have overwhelming resources to swoop in and save our people in Benghazi. Perhaps our forces would have been able to stabalize the rocky nation during a critical time.
But they were deliberately prevented from doing so. There are still so many questions about why our government–and namely Secretary of State Clinton–actively worked against intervention.
When she was supposed to be questioned on the subject, she was given a pass.
This more than anything else should tell the American people it’s time for a change. Our current leaders have failed us. Insider politics, corruption, and liberal policies have transformed our government into a den of thieves and liars.
Only new, fresh, and uncompromising leadership can fix these massive problems. And you know that won’t be Hillary.
