Subheading: The Houston Texans star had a goal in mind – but he keeps raising the bar higher.
The devastation from Harvey has inspired many folks to do what they can to help out.
All contributions add up, but some folks are really knocking it out of the park. Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt definitely falls into that category.
Watt leapt into action to help the victims of Harvey, and he has coordinated a massive fundraising effort that has been wildly successful.
Independent Journal Review passes along the news on that.
Houston Texan NFL player J.J. Watt’s fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey victims has reached a new milestone, thanks to several major relief donations over the past couple of days. Watt says he is stunned by the outpouring of support.
Watt himself started off by donating $100,000 to the fundraiser on Sunday.
A combination of Watt’s star power and the giving spirit that Harvey has inspired has led to a mind-boggling amount of money being raised.
A number of celebrities have stepped up to the plate with massive donations of their own, and it looks like it’s going to keep pouring in.
“We started out on Sunday with a goal of raising $200,000, and we just now surpassed the $10 million mark,” Watt said in a video he tweeted Thursday morning.

Watt says he plans to keep his fundraising link open for anyone else who wants to donate to the fund, and will begin distributing supplies to Harvey victims over the weekend.
“Houston, we’re thinking of you,” he said, thanking everybody who showed his city support.
“My focus is very much on getting the money directly to the people, as I’ve said the whole time,” he added.
Hats off to Watt for getting the ball rolling here. This is an outstanding example of a famous athlete using the megaphone afforded by their status to affect immediate change.
Watt simply saw a spot in which he could help, and he put the wheels in motion to make it happen.
