Historically, liberal host Bill Maher has supported Democrat policies and ideas. However, in recent years he’s shown more moderation and has even sided with Republicans on several key issues.
He has also called out the Biden administration on more than one occasion, much to the surprise of conservatives. In fact, Maher’s criticism often sounds very similar to criticism from right-wing voters.
And now he thinks Biden should get rid of the second-most powerful person in Washington D.C.
Maher recently spoke with The Atlantic writer Caitlin Flanagan and CNN commentator Van Jones about the 2024 presidential elections. So far, Biden still plans to run despite pushback, even in his own party.
As for Vice President Kamala Harris, her approval ratings have struggled for most of her term, and recent polls show little improvement.
Maher believes that Biden will probably run again — but if he does, he should do it with another partner.
This suggestion sent shockwaves through the liberal media and seemed to light a fire under fans of the Biden administration. Maher’s comments were certainly hard-hitting:
“I just think she’s a bad politician. And I don’t … I think she’s a very bright person.
But I can see them doing that because a lot of the problem with Biden being old is, ‘Oh, if he dies then you know you’re gonna get this person.’
Maher added that the problem with Democrats is that they’re “boxed in by identity politics,” and they “cannot conceive of a Democratic ticket that doesn’t have a woman and a person of color on it.”
He expanded on his comments concerning Biden’s age as well, saying that the country should prepare for some “senior moments” in the presidential debate, which could be a huge problem:
I admit, he is gonna have trouble in the debate. Debates are gonna look bad. Prepare for it now. There’s gonna be some senior moments.
OK, he could show up without pants. That’s true,” Maher said. “It doesn’t matter. It has nothing to do with running the country.
Biden’s age and cognitive state has been a topic of concern for most of the President’s term in office.
Back in August, over 50 Republican leaders demanded that Biden take a cognitive test, which has yet to happen. There’s also the continuing economic struggles, with fears of a recession surging in the past few weeks.
As a result, the midterm elections are looking better for the GOP, while Democrats might even have difficulty hanging on to the Senate.
The 2024 presidential election is still a ways off and a lot can happen in two years. However, if the issue of Biden’s age keeps coming up and Harris’ popularity keeps floundering, America will have lots of questions.
And one of those questions is: who do Democrats really have as possible strong candidates right now?
Key Takeaways:
- Liberal host Bill Maher suggested that President Joe Biden should dump Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 election.
- Maher called her “not bright” and just a “bad politician.” He added that Democrats are “boxed in by identity politics.”
- Approval ratings for Biden and Harris have suffered in recent weeks, and many wonder if this duo has a real shot in 2024.
