Nikki Haley Drops Her ‘Last’ Announcement On United Nations ‘Cesspool’

Currently, the United States gives approximately $8 billion per year to the United Nations. Currently.

It supplied 22{75726800c12fe2ebed14402fd98444a61f7eda42751f92330bc58faf20bd8821} of the entire UN budget in 2017— essentially, the U.N. wouldn’t exist without the United States.

And yet this institution treats us with nothing but disrespect. The U.N. constantly hosts disgraceful dictators, who turn around and lecture the United States on our alleged “human rights abuses.”

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has had enough of this egregious double standard and made an announcement that has the U.N. Human Rights Council spinning in its chair.

From Fox News:

The Trump administration announced Tuesday it was withdrawing the U.S. from the United Nations Human Rights Council, with U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley calling the 47-member council “a protector of human rights abusers, and a cesspool of political bias.”

Haley noted the move came after a year where “we did not see any progress.”

Haley threatened the pullout last year, citing longstanding U.S. complaints that the council showed a “chronic bias” against Israel. Calling it “an organization that is not worthy of its name,” Haley decried the membership of countries like China, Cuba and Venezuela — which also have been slammed for human-rights violations.

Haley then stated, “[T]his step is not a retreat from human rights commitments. On the contrary, we take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights.”

In recent months, the UN has made several questionable decisions that cast doubt on their commitment to defending human rights, such as their constant scapegoating of Israel.

Haley brought up in a speech last week how the humanitarian crises of Nicaragua, Yemen, and Venezuela are being swept under the rug, and the UN is instead partaking in their “favorite political sport of attacking Israel.”

A recent resolution condemning human rights abuses in the Israeli Palestinian conflict put all the blame for the conflict on Israel. It made no mention of Hamas, “who routinely initiate the violence in Gaza.”

The UN’s treatment of Israel mirrors its treatment of the United States, and it’s past time for the US to get out. If the other nations want it open, let them bear the cost of maintaining the U.N. headquarters. Otherwise, we should take the building in New York back and turn it into a VA hospital.
