They could do something useful like getting rid of the penny, but at least he was a Democrat…
You may not have enough of these in your wallet these days, so the news might not be so exciting.
But the official word has come from the White House that President Andrew Jackson will be erased from American history or at least his visage on the twenty dollar bill.
According to Inquisitr:
There will soon be a new $20 bill, as Andrew Jackson will be taken off and replaced by a woman, but Alexander Hamilton has saved his spot on the $10 bill.
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew had announced last summer that Hamilton would likely be replaced with one of the most influential women in American history, but the decision was met with controversy. Many wanted to preserve Hamilton’s place in history, a movement that got even stronger thanks to the popular Broadway musical about his life, CNN noted.
Instead, Lew has decided to keep Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill, with a new mural of famous woman suffragists will be added to the back. Jackson will instead get the boot from the $20 bill.
To those with too much time on their hands, this seems to a resounding victory.
Activists have been fighting to adding a prominent female figure on our currency for years. I guess they don’t have more important issues to tackle, like a flagging economy, threat of terrorism, and widespread domestic abuse.
But the changing of a piece of currency seems more trivial, considering that few people use cash in their daily lives, anyway. In the last seven days, how have you paid for your food and other expenses? Yep, you used a debit or credit card.
Seeing as how so many transactions are happening online, does replacing Andrew Jackson even matter?
I can tell you one thing, if you asked Jackson now, he wouldn’t really care.
