In his waning days as president, Obama is trying to use what clout he has left to help his successors. Like a bed ridden hospital patient, he’s using his last gasps to do whatever he can to solidify his legacy. Not content to let voters decide who should lead us, he’s trying to manipulate the voter base to support his agenda.
We’ve see him try to circumvent Congress to push for gun reform and transgender issues. Since that looks to be failing, he’s resorting to the last hope of a desperate man: stumping for another candidate. Little by little, he’s been showing his face, on TV and at fund raising groups, hoping whatever is left of his good will can raise enough support against his greatest threat: a Donald Trump White House.
Though he will fail, he’s using the strongest rhetoric a spineless politician can muster. He pointed to the often overused issue of climate change, to reinforce his point. Just mentioning climate change to a liberal is enough to get their mouths foaming.
According Breitbart, Obama had this to say:
“When scientists tell us that the planet is getting warmer and we need to do something about it, the majority of people think that’s a good idea, let’s do something about that, because we don’t want Manhattan to be underwater,” Obama said during a fundraiser in New York City.
No, sorry. The majority of people don’t agree and neither do scientists!
At the current rate, sea level could rise as much as 4-8 inches over the next century. I think New Yorkers are safe.
While we all would like to prevent climate change–whether it’s real, man-made, or made up–we don’t like Big Government deciding how we do it. Nor do we like the president to make offhanded remarks about an American city being “underwater.” That’s irresponsible, manipulative, stupid and objectively wrong!
“The bad news is that our politics has been a little screwed up lately,” he said, pointing to the Republican party’s nomination process.
But he urged his donors to help the Democratic party organize against Trump.
“We got to get busy and we got to organize, and we got to work,” he said. “And the only way we do that effectively is when we have support from folks like you.”
He’s the real point to it all. Obama and Hillary are terrified of Trump. They know he has real momentum and will dominate the news and polls for the next few months. He will simply crush Hillary in the election and there’s little they can do but beg to their donors.
It seems though that Obama’s not entirely in it. His tone in this speech is all but relaxed. It’s like he’s given up. I guess eight years of misery will do that to anybody.
So perhaps this little quote from Obama will quickly be forgotten. I’ve already forgotten it.
