Most of us remember the trouble conservatives had during the Obama regime.
While Obama and his cronies in the Democratic Party wanted to drive this country into oblivion with terrible programs and massive spending, republicans were working to reign in at least some of the madness.
That resulted in frequent gridlock on Capitol Hill. Democrats wanted to push through their bloated spending budgets, while the majority republicans tried to make needed reforms.
What ended up happening in 2013 was a short government shutdown. While it only lasted about two weeks, the media tried to spin it as a horrible disaster for our country. It was painful–mostly to government employees–it showed the lengths a party would go in order to block the other.
Now that President Trump is pushing for some strong and needed reform, a new threat of government shutdown is stirring. This time from a party that hasn’t been this weak since the 1920’s.
Now, according to CNN, Democrats are threatening a government shut-down over changes to Obamacare funding. A Democrat source told CNN that plans were already in the works to tie Obamacare funding to cooperation with a funding bill that will allow the government to continue operating after April 28, but President Trump’s comments the day before “threw gas on the fire.”
The comments were made during an interview with the Wall Street Journal — Trump talked about using Obamacare funding as a tool to get cooperation from Democrats on making changes to the controversial law. ABC News reported that he is using the threat to keep everyone at the table so Americans have the help and protections they need:
“Obamacare is dead next month if it doesn’t get that money. I haven’t made my viewpoint clear yet. I don’t want people to get hurt.”
It’s pretty hilarious to think that the democrats can do anything right now.
They do not have the votes to prevent Trump and the GOP from getting their work done. Remember, they promised numerous times to prevent Trump’s plans from being put into action. Every time they failed.
They tried to frustrate his cabinet picks. They failed. They’ve bellyached over his executive orders and reforms. They failed. They even promised a filibuster over Neil Gorsuch. Guess what? He’s now a Supreme Court Justice.
It’s clear the democrats have little power to resist Trump and conservative leaders. Even the small gains made in limiting his immigration EO was done by liberal judges, not democrats in Washington (which will get overturned by the Supreme Court). All that democrats can do is complain to their buddies in the mainstream media.
President Trump is trying to get the democrats in D.C. to actually work with him. Things will go better for the party if they cooperate with the president, not resist him.
Yet if they are able to prevent a budget getting passed–and the government does shut down–it will all fall on their heads.
The GOP will be able to pivot, blame the failing democrats, and move forward with their reforms. Obamacare will get defunded; a budget will get passed; we will move on.
Who is going to lose? Well, the Democrats, that’s who!
But they’ve gotten used to losing these days.
