The really smart people on TV says that Donald Trump cannot beat Hillary Clinton no matter what.
Ted Cruz uses this talking point in every single one of his speeches and interviews.
So what would happen if a poll came out showing Trump catching Clinton?
Well, it just happened in a George Washington University national poll of general election voters
Hot Air has the details…
In a head-to-head matchup of each party’s frontrunner, Mrs. Clinton leads Mr. Trump by only 3 percentage points nationally (46 to 43; 11 percent undecided). Comparatively, Mr. Sanders fares slightly better against Mr. Trump (51/40/10). [GWU]
Considering the deeply contentious and never-ending GOP primary coupled with the #NeverTrump movement and the unorthodox campaign style of the New York billionaire, a poll showing him in a statistical dead heat with Clinton is reason to celebrate on the highest floors of 57th and 5th.
These results fly in the face of the thorough and detailed analysis by many political analysts including our Townhall colleague Guy Benson who’s been methodical in his argument that Trump can’t win head-to-head against Team Hillary.
If this result gets repeated in other polls, one of the main arguments against nominating Trump will be sunk at the exact moment that the primary is going into its final leg. That is just what The Donald is hoping for.
