Most voters who backed Donald Trump were motivated by his strong stand on immigration. Not only did he vow to enforce existing immigration laws (what a concept!) but he went further than any GOP candidate in living memory:
Trump pledged to build a wall and do everything else in his power to halt the flow of illegal aliens into the United States, particularly from across the southern border. One telling indicator of his popularity and seriousness, in fact, was that he received a rare official endorsement from border patrol agents.
Here and there, reports have come out that there are “rogue” agents refusing to carry out this new tougher policy. However, that may not be a problem for much longer. As Bob Price reports for Breitbart, a new development on that front actually helps Trump keep two promises at once — to create thousands of great new American jobs, and secure the nation’s borders:
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John F. Kelly authorized the hiring of an additional 10,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and enforcement officers. The move by DHS delivers on a promise made by President Donald Trump to increase enforcement–particularly in removing criminal aliens inside the borders of the U.S. (…)
CE agents and enforcement officers were used earlier this month to conduct a targeted roundup of criminal aliens in metropolitan areas across the country. Agents and officers arrested more than 600 criminal aliens in 11 states, Breitbart Texas reported. The operation spawned a rash of “fake news” reports, tweets, and other social media comments that sparked unnecessary fear among immigrants not in the sights of the targeted operation. (…)
“Of those [680 aliens] arrested, approximately 75 percent were criminal aliens, convicted of crimes including, but not limited to, homicide, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual assault of a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, indecent liberties with a minor, drug trafficking, battery, assault, DUI and weapons charges,” Secretary Kelly wrote in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas.
Few people doubted that Donald Trump was serious when he said he wanted to secure the southern border. Again and again, he talked about crimes committed by illegals who’d snuck into the U.S., and he invited the families of victims to address his rallies.
The sticking point was whether or not Trump and his team would be able to keep that promise once elected. Wouldn’t he be stifled by the usual crew of “activists,” lobbyists, lawyers and of course, bleeding heart liberal Democrats?
At this point, the hiring of an incredible 10,000 new agents is an indication of just how serious the White House is about enforcing the laws on the books.
Obviously, all these individuals still need to be selected, trained and then deployed into the field to carry out their dangerous work.
It may take months or even years to really get a handle on a situation that has been out of control for years.
That being said, this is a welcome development and yet another sign that Donald Trump is serious about his promise to make America safe again.
